Tradition

The Holy Ghost Brotherhood of Charity (Brightridge) is a local organization rooted in the traditions of the Portuguese and Azorean communities, dedicated to religious, cultural, and charitable activities. We embody the values of faith, fellowship, and service, honoring traditions associated with the Holy Spirit while supporting our local community.

Feast of the Holy Ghost

The Feast is part of a longstanding tradition among Portuguese / Azorean immigrant communities.  The roots trace back centuries: the tradition is linked to Queen Saint Isabel of Portugal (also known as Queen Elizabeth), who — according to legend — dedicated herself to feeding the poor after a famine-time event that she attributed to a miracle of the Holy Spirit.

Through compassion, fund raising efforts, service, and generosity, we aim to strengthen our community, promote unity, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
